The parish council’s planning application to develop the Reading Room in Church Road is now available to view online in the Wealden District Council planning pages http://www.planning.wealden.gov.uk/searchresults.aspx?SearchType=15&Address=church%20road,%20buxted application no. WD/2017/1401/O.
Apologies for the slightly delayed post, but the application came in when both the Chairman and one of the clerks were away (typical).
The redevelopment of the Reading Room has been a long running objective of the parish council, in order to assist with funding of a new village hall on the Ionides Trust site, which has been granted planning permission.
However, the parish council would like to stress the point that in the event of planning permission being granted, it will not be starting the redevelopment any time soon. We would not even consider this step until the new village hall was either built or nearly built. There is still a very long way to go before this is likely to happen, if it ever does. Current estimate of costs are coming in at about 1.3 million, which is a lot of money to raise.
Also the Outline permission for which we have applied will not necessarily be built to the plan here outlined. The parish council have decided, at this time, that they have no wish to develop the site themselves, and the permission would be sold on and may be likely to revision by whoever bought it.
Given that the parish council are the applicants, it does not consider it prudent, or appropriate to consider this application as part of the planning agenda on 12th September, or send a consultation response back to WDC. However it will be on the agenda if members of the public wish to make any comments to the committee.
Any comment regarding the application should be directed to Wealden District Council.
